Headphones don't work with my laptop?

This has been going on for a while now, I have a Hi-Grade M760S laptop & recently I can't listen to music through the speakers, I have to fiddle about with the end of my headphones for the sound to come through properly but still I get problems. Any idea's on how to fix this? Or maybe as to why it's doing this. I've had my laptop since 2008.
