Is it hard learning to play the fiddle?

I really want to take up an instrument and I think a fiddle could be really cool. But is it really hard? I have almost no prior musical experience, though I do have a good sense of beat. I learn fast, and remember well. But how hard is it exactly? I've found some stuff online that says it's really easy, and some other stuff that says it's impossible. Just wondering if someone could clear this up for me. Thanks :)
