How to play F major cleanly on acoustic guitar?

I can never make a clean chord unless I spend ages fiddling around to get my hand right in the correct place. I have been playing for a while, and its frustrating me that everytime I go for this chord, it just comes out muffled and rubbish becuase my hand wont press hard enough, or wont get in the right place.
